8 Hour Confined Space Course Details

The Confined Space Awareness course is designed to educate students’ working in the vicinity of confined spaces on key safety hazards, methods of controlling those hazards, elements of confined space programs, emergency procedures and training requirements. Students will become familiar with examples of confined spaces and associated hazards found in both general industry and construction worksites.

Note: This training does not meet OSHA’s site-specific confined space training requirements. It is intended to serve only as a basic awareness course for students that may work around confined spaces and is NOT intended for those workers who are required to enter a confined space.

Additional Details

Participants need to be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  • Identifying and differentiating permit-required and non-permit confined space entry sites
  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of confined space work team members, including supervisors, entrants and attendants.
  • Recognizing the hazards found in confined space situations, including airborne and physical hazards
  • Proper use of gas monitoring equipment
  • Safe ventilation practices for working in confined spaces
  • Understanding basic emergency procedures and the role of rescue service personnel
  • How and when to temporarily reclassify a permit-required site to non-permit status
  • Use of OSHA’s alternate entry procedures

CEU Credits: 0.8

To earn a certificate of completion and a permanent card, student must do the following:

  • 100% attendance for confined space course: 8 hours of instruction time
  • Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form
  • Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)
  • Completion of required pre-and post-quiz assessment
  • As applicable, achievement of a minimum passing score on the examination of end-of-course needed
  • Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)
  • Make-up time is not allowed. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule and attend the full training course.

A plethora of methods will be used, such as auditory, visual and kinesthetic methods to ensure learning. This includes the program’s PowerPoint, related lectures, testing/quizzing, hands-on activities, and classroom discussions. More specifically, the class will include videos and demonstration of equipment used in confined spaces such as personal fall arrest systems used on construction sites.
