NYC BOD Requirement:
Local law 196 introduced new regulations for demolition and construction workers employed in the 5 boroughs that will require them to complete a certain amount of training hours including, the 2 hour drug and alcohol awareness course in order to receive a Site Safety Training (SST) card which will allow them to work in NYC.
This course is an elective course that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a Site Safety Training Card. THIS IS AN AWARENESS-LEVEL TRAINING ONLY and does not provide any other qualification or authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card. In order to continue to operate in the City of New York, the designated construction worker is required to complete a minimum number of hours of approved site safety training and to carry site safety identification cards as proof of completion of the training (As per New York City Local Law 196 of 2017 also known as ‘LL196’ or ‘Local Law’). This course provides two hours towards the satisfaction of that requirement.
- 100% attendance for the 2-HR Drug & Alcohol Awareness class: 2 hours of instruction time
- Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form
- Active participation in all class exercises (determined by instructor)
- Completion of required quiz assessment
- As applicable, achievement of the minimum passing score (70%) on the required end-of-course examination
- Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)
- Make-up time is not allowed. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule and attend the full training course.

Alcohol Use & Its Effects on the Body (15 minutes)
- Cover how “one” drink impacts the body and how much “one” drink is
- Health and safety issues regarding alcohol abuse.
Prevention and Control of Drugs and Alcohol (15 minutes)
- The behavioral dependencies of drug and alcohol use.
How to Avoid Drug and Alcohol Dependency (30 minutes)
- Resources available to students should they require help with drug or alcohol addiction.

Audience
Required curriculum for any worker or supervisor employed in NYC within the Five Boroughs on projects requiring a Construction Super, Site Safety Manager, Site Safety Coordinator, Concrete Safety Manager, or Competent Person. Also, applicable to individuals seeking a more comprehensive understanding of their specific responsibilities for initiating and carrying out drug-free workplace policies and procedures in the workplace or on a job site.
Upon succesful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion.
